Summer looks different for all of us.

You might be taking time off to spend with loved ones. Maybe business slows down for you, or maybe this is your busiest season yet.

For some women in business, summer brings a welcome breathing space. A chance to work on the business, not just in it. For others, it flips the routine completely. There’s the juggle of family plans, holidays, life admin… all while trying to keep the business ticking over.

And then there’s the in-between. You’re doing your best to keep things moving, meet your own needs, and squeeze in a bit of summer joy, too.

Let’s talk about how to keep your business going, manage family life, take a real break, and still make time for you this summer. Because it is possible to have all three – business, family, and breathing space – with a little bit of grace and a dash of planning.

1. Redefine What “Active” Looks Like (For You)

You don’t need to be in launch mode or hitting big goals to be “doing enough” this summer.

Let’s stop measuring productivity by how busy we are. There’s value in the quiet wins too.
Summer might be the perfect time to review, reset, or recalibrate. That still counts as progress.

💡You could:

  • Focus on behind-the-scenes tasks that always fall to the bottom of your list.
  • Revisit your messaging or brand story now that you have headspace.
  • Create a new habit or system that supports your business long term.

2. Work With the Season, Not Against It

Your rhythm might shift in summer, whether because of family demands, travel plans, or simply the shift in energy that longer, lighter days bring.

  • Give yourself permission to adapt – What worked in spring might not work now, and that’s okay.
Can you shorten your working hours, take a few half days, or work in a more flexible pattern?
  • Be intentional, not rigid – Instead of pushing to maintain the same pace, set 1–3 priorities each week that keep your business gently ticking over.
  • Let people know your summer rhythm – Whether you’re more available or taking a step back, setting clear expectations helps everyone, including you.

3. Take Time Off (Without the Guilt)**

Even if your business is your passion, it’s healthy to step away. You’re allowed to rest without earning it. You don’t need a reason or a permission slip.

  • Set an out-of-office – Even if you’re staying local, it’s a powerful boundary.
  • Silence the noise – Turn off notifications, batch schedule your content, and trust your systems (or your audience) to hold while you breathe.
  • A rested mind is a creative mind – You may be surprised what new ideas bubble up when you give yourself space to simply be.

4. Plan Smart But Keep It Light

Summer is a great time to stay visible in simple, sustainable ways. If you know certain weeks will be quieter or busier, use that insight to your advantage.

  • Batch and schedule when you can – Even a few hours spent preparing content, emails, or social posts can free you up later.
  • Lean into support – From tech tools to teammates or simply asking someone to help you stay accountable, don’t be afraid to share the load.
  • Have a ‘bare minimum’ plan – If all else fails, what’s the one thing that will keep your business moving this week? Focus there. Everything else is a bonus.

5. Make Space for You

Whether you’ve got a packed diary, an empty house, or a never-ending list of to-dos, remember you are not just a business owner. You are a person, and your needs matter too.

🌸 This is your reminder to:

  • Sit in the sun with a book just because.
  • Say no to things that drain you.
  • Put yourself back on the priority list.

You can hold space for others and your business without dropping yourself in the process.

So, What Does Summer Success Really Look Like?

It’s not about doing more. It’s about doing what’s right for you in this season.

👉 It might be planning your next big move.
👉 It might be pausing and catching your breath.
👉 It might be navigating an upside-down routine.
👉 Or it might be embracing the slower pace to reconnect with what you truly want.

Whatever summer brings you, know this: You’ve built something beautiful. You’ve got this. And you’re not alone. Your BWi community is here, cheering you on – whether you’re in full flow or full holiday mode.
